Falcons trade Schaub to Texans

The Atlanta Falcons have reached an agreement with the Houston Texans that will send Matt Schaub to Atlanta in return for the Texans 2nd round pick.

From Houston's perspective - I love it. Schaub has shown the ability to play at a high level in the times he has filled in for Atlanta because of injury to Michael Vick. He stands tall in the pocket, has a strong arm, and makes good decisions. He is more ready to play than any QB Houston could draft, and they can now use their first round pick to address other areas of need (offensive line, secondary, etc).

From Atlanta's perspective - I like it. The Falcons had to get something for Schaub (a restricted free agent that would be gone after next season with no compensation). The Falcons are committed to Michael Vick, and as such it is difficult to have such a valuable commodity such as Schaub sitting on your bench and not contributing on the field. The Falcons now have an extra first day pick and can use it to help fill the numerous holes they have this off-season (secondary, DE, offensive line). The only part I do not like about the Falcons dealing Schaub is that I think they might have been able to get more for him. Last year Minnesota was willing to send the #17 overall pick for Schaub. Now, we have to wait and let the dust settle on the trade to find out what, if anything, extra the Falcons were able to squeeze out of Houston for Schaub.
